Blue Grouse.
On the south side of Cowichan Lake, about 30 km south of Mount Sicker and a few hundred metres off a paved road, the historic Blue Grouse and Sunnyside mines left high- copper waste and open physical hazards. The mines operated in 1917–1919 and again from 1956 to 1960.
A sampling program across the waste area, reported November 2024, returned 2.37% Cu with 12.8 g/t Ag at Blue Grouse and 4.31% Cu with 8.91 g/t Ag at Sunnyside (both historic mines, only a few hundred metres apart), from an estimated 300,000t of high-copper waste. Sasquatch holds an option on the property (extended to 2030). Recovering the copper also means clearing acid-generating waste and making century-old workings safe (Blue Grouse is beside a well-used recreation area).
Progress highlights.
101 samples were taken across grids covering 3 waste areas (as well as 4 grab/chip samples) to assess waste rock composition at Blue Grouse. Results showed that significant copper values (and some silver) appear to exist in the waste.

What to expect.
Blue Grouse is expected to follow Mount Sicker and Copper Road as our third prospective legacy mine site clean-up project. Once operations at Mount Sicker and Copper Road have been successfully permitted, additional work will be done at Blue Grouse leading up to operations commencing there. However, as noted above, significant strides have already been made toward understanding waste rock volumes and compositions at Blue Grouse.
